Senior drugs and rapes BPO executive
Aug 10, 2009
Gurgaon News: A
27-year-old call centre executive at a leading Gurgaon-based
BPO has alleged that a senior colleague drugged her by
offering a cold drink laced with sedatives and then
raped her. A medical test at a government hospital has
confirmed the rape and the victim's statement has been
recorded.
The accused, Prashant Rana, 28, who was the victim's
immediate boss and team leader, has been arrested by the
west district police on charges of rape and illegal
detention.
The shocking incident
allegedly took place on Friday, after the two had taken
the office cab drop to west Delhi. ``The victim alleged
that Rana offered her cold drinks mixed with sedatives.
She felt dizzy soon after and was allegedly led to an
unknown place by the accused. She got up in the morning
the next day and realized she had been raped. The victim
said she does not remember where she had been taken but
took an autorickshaw home from the spot,'' said DCP
(west) Sharad Agarwal.
He added that the victim reported the incident only on
Saturday midnight after mustering up courage.
Agarwal said the victim had joined the company four
months ago as an executive. ``The victim has a rented
accommodation at Jwala Heri and Rana lives nearby.
That's why they took the same cab. That is how the
victim became an acquaintance of the accused,'' said an
investigating officer.
According to the police, the victim's parents in
Uttarakhand have been informed about the incident. ``The
girl is in trauma and we are waiting for her to recover
before questioning her. Meanwhile, we are investigating
whether anyone else was part of this crime.
Sources said that the victim, who has been residing in
Delhi for sometime, had recently switched her job in the
hope of better pay. ``We might question a few
shop-owners at the Jwala Heri market to ascertain the
girl's claims,'' Agarwal said.
