Development Institute, Gurgaon, is spreading its wings across the
world to emerge as a truly global B-school.
What are the
parameters of judging a top B-school? Is it top-notch faculty,
quality of students, placements that are linked to institute’s
standing in the corporate world or foreign accreditation? Perhaps,
a mix of all of them. Management Development Institute (MDI),
Gurgaon, has recently got accreditation from the UK based entity
Associates Management Master’s Business Administration or AMBA.
An international advocate of the MBA, the association provides a
network for MBAs, business schools and employers. The AMBA along
with EQUIS and AACSB (US) are among the premier bodies whose
accreditation for B-school is reputed across the world.
Pritam Singh
director, MDI, said: “The AMBA has accredited 100 institutions
across the world. If you have accreditation from AMBA, you are
part of an elite group of institution. You become me an important
member of the club in areas like teaching, training, student and
faculty exchange, joint research, and consultancy.
“The
accreditation process deals with issue like processes, strategy,
mission and vision, resource, faculty, leadership and governance
of the school. It helps the institute to leverage its strengths in
the terms of research, positioning of brand at the global level
and projecting the school in minds of students, governments and
corporate in a better way.”
As
parts of its vision to become a truly global B-school, MDI has
recently signed an agreement with the European School of
Management (ESCP_EAP) France to start a 19-month PGDBM programmed
in International Management. To start with, the programmed will
admit 40 students. In first phase, the students will study in MDI
for six months. In the second phase, the students could join
ESCP-EAP campuses in paris, London or Turin. The final phase of
the programme will be paid internship in Europe for four months.
The institute will also assist in placement of students.
Graduates with
minimum 55% marks from a recognized university or institute are
eligible for this programme. Student with work experience will
have an advantage during the selection process. Selection will be
based on CAT/GMAT score, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
The of programme would be euros 12,600 or equivalent of Indians
rupees. “we will advertise in international publications to
admit foreign student as well. This programme will help Indian and
Foreign students to understand each other’s culture, tradition,
business environment and global management system,” added Singh.
MDI is also
looking forward to open a campus either in Malaysia, Mauritius or
Thailand in a few years’ time. It will entail an investment of
Rs.30-35 crore. When asked why MDI is looking at south east Asia
and not Europe as its new growth area, Singh replied: “We are
already in Europe as part of MoUs with institutes, tie-up with
ESCP-EAP and accreditation with AMBA. We would prefer to follow
the ‘bottom of the pyramid’ concept and go where there is no
completion.”
