Once
again the district administrator promised that Gurgaon will be
developed as a world-class city and in this respect development
works will be sped up. Talking to reporters this Friday evening
the deputy commissioner R.P. Bhardwaj said that for improvement of
roads, augmentation of sewer management and drinking water supply
the state government has sanctioned Rs.470 crore.
The
DC also said that work has already started involving Rs.56 crore
in the city. He added that Rs. 95 crore would be spent on widening
and dense carpeting of roads by different civic agencies including
the HUDA. The road from Rajiv Chowk to Badshahpur, which leads to
Nuh, will be eight-laned. There is also a plan to make the
Meharauli-Gurgaon road free of traffic signals. Though the DC’s
signal to improve the MG Road is a positive signal, things are
still not clear whether the stretch will breath easy for the
simple reason that the major portion of the road falls under Delhi
jurisdiction. Hence how much amount the budget of Delhi Government
for 2006-07 allocates for this stretch will answer this question.
The
DC also said that to augment the sewerage treatment facilities Rs.
25 crore would be spent.
Meanwhile,
the DC has also told a daily that there are plans to bring
air-conditioned city buses in Gurgaon for intra-city movement.
Although there has been some improvement in the city public
transport since city buses have started playing in Gurgaon,
resident and visitors of several localities including DLF colonies
and Sushant Lok have no option than resorting to cycle-rickshaws
and three-wheelers.
