MG Road is all encroached by rickshaw pullers who queue up
there the whole day. The rickshaw pullers feel that it is good place to
wait for the customers and in the absence of any public transport system
their business is also flourishing. These rickshaws can been seen in a
mile long queue near the malls, all along the MG Road.
“There is a major problem getting inside the colony
and at any given point of day you can see 50-70 rickshaws lined up
alongside the road. Many times they even encroach upon our entrance gate.
They create a lot of problem for the pedestrians as well as motorists,”
says Rashi Manocha, a resident.
The problem has also been felt by the area RWA and they have raised the
matter with the traffic officials but to no avail. “We have raised the
matter with the traffic police on several occasions, but their have been
no positive results. The problem is persisting and this is causing a lot
of inconvenience to the residents,” said Subhir K Gosh, president RWA. To
keep these rickshaws and rickshaws pullers at bay, the security guards
employed for the security of the area have to forcibly remove them at
times. The traffic police officials say that they also keep on removing
them from the road time and again and many times have even deflated their
tyres to penalise them for queuing up.
