The bus
service would also cover areas like Presidents House,
Parliament house, ITO, Karol Bagh, Nehru Palace, Pargati
Maidan, AIIMS, Connaught Palace, Defence Colony,
Paharganj, Old and New Delhi Railway Station, Chandni
Chowk, etc in New Delhi.
Once the service is in place, over 70 buses which are
being operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)
would be asked to withdraw. Till now in the absence of
CNG buses, the services by DTC were being utilized. "The
trial buses started by the department have got a
favourable response, following which we have come with
this proposal. We have already got permits for 30 buses
and would acquire the same for the rest 20 soon. The
buses would be run at regular intervals so that the
commuters can benefit from them. The move would reduce
the hassles being faced by commuters now," informed a
senior department official. The department is hopeful
that the service would begin by August this year. |
