Officials said that the initiative was a part of
government’s drive to check graft in public offices. “It
is no secret that many offices like those of tehsildars,
Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and
registration and licensing authority are regarded as
dens of corruption. We are looking at ways to create
deterrents.
Unfortunately, the periodic raids and traps set up by
Vigilance Bureau to nab corrupt officials have not
proved very effective over the years,’’ an official
remarked.
The activities taking place in these offices will be
monitored and recorded daily through closed-circuit
cameras fitted with microphones. The deputy
commissioners and superintendents of police will get a
live feed in their offices.
Besides this experiment, prevalent procedures would also
be modified to check graft, officials said. For
instance, the number of registration deeds to be
executed in the tehsil offices may be scheduled.
“Entries of the deeds to be executed should be
computerised and the intimation of the schedule be given
to each applicant. This way, the applicant will get the
deed document on a specified day and will be saved
harassment,” an official explained.
Some other measures to check graft, like registration of
vehicles and grant of vehicle fitness certificate
through authorised automobile dealers, are also under
consideration of the administration. These measures too
would be taken up in the next meeting. |
