Struggling hard to acquire Haryana Government land at Delhi-Gurgaon border for the construction of India’s biggest toll plaza on the Expressway on NH8, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has hit another roadblock. Private land owners have obtained NHAI from acquiring their land for the toll plaza.
NHAI needs about 37,000 square meters land for the construction of a toll plaza near Haldiram’s. The other two toll plazas are to come up at the Delhi-Gurgaon border and at the IGI airport junction.
Apart from the Haryana government’s land, two factories, which are already in operation, are under the required land acquisition limits. The factory owners have already moved the High Court against the NHAI’s acquisition plans.
Manish Vashisht, the counsel for the private companies, says the high court had granted an injunction against NHAI construction beyond 49 meters from the center of the road.
“The NHAI had plans to expand the road by eight lanes and also construct one-lane service road on either side. With each lane measuring five meters, the total width required comes to 45 meters. But NHAI issued notices in 2005 for acquiring land 110 meters on both the sides with additional space required for toll plaza,” says Vashisht.
