Gurgaon Educaton News: Education capital @ Gurgaon

The BPO city… the mall city… the industrial city… the hi-rises city… Gurgaon sure is known by a lot many names. And, today with educational institutions lining up to establish a presence in the millennium city, Gurgaon can surely call itself the education capital of India!

Having been termed the millennium city, cyber capital and call center capital at various points of time, Gurgaon has now got a new name to add to the long list of its USPs. With a large number of schools, colleges and educational institutes opening up in the city, Gurgaon is fast turning into the educational capital of the country. The city has been witnessing a boom in the education industry. While a large number of schools have already come up in the city, many big names are getting ready to come in and make Gurgaon their home. Schools like DPS, Shriram School, Ryan International, Amity International School, Shikshantar, Xion International Convent School, Salwan Public school, Euro international School, Chiranjeev Bharti, Alpine Convent School,St. PNB School and others have already set up a home in the city, now certain other big names have also started moving into the city. Schools like Sun City World, Scottish High and Excelrios American School have been the latest addition to the skyline of the city, and names like Amedus, Shalom Hills School and IILM World Schools are promising to make a mark from the forthcoming session. The trend had obviously found favour with both the school managements as well as the parents who have been getting a wide range to choose from.

"Till a couple of years ago, the city had very few options when it came to schools and getting the child admitted was a real uphill task. However, today you have a wider range to choose from. Many schools are offering education on the American concept and that’s good. If I want to send my child to an international school later on, I know my child will be equipped to handle the pressure," said Sherya Raina, a parent. The schools are also seeing it as a transitional phase and for betterment of the city. "There is a radical change happening in the city. Though on the surface there might be very little activity, there is a lot happening under the surface. I totally agree that the city is fast turning an education capital of the state and in the days to come it would surely turn an education capital for the country," said Rupa Chakarvarty, principal, Sun City World School.

The fact that schools are keen on establishing a base in the city has been endorsed by the recent auction by of plots by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). A five-acre site for a primary school was auctioned at Rs 40 crore as against its reserve price of Rs 10 crore, a 0.25-acre site for a nursery school was auctioned for Rs 4 crore, 0.2 acre sites were auctioned at Rs 1-2 crore each and 1 acre sites were auctioned at Rs 6-7 crore each. The hike has been over 300 per cent. HUDA had managed earn Rs 19 crore from 10 school sites in year 2002, with a reserve price of Rs 17 crore. That’s a sure enough indication!
